Executive Committee 2020-21

Kim Luke, President

Kim LukeI graduated from UC Davis in 2020 with a B.S. in Wildlife, Fish, Conservation Biology, focusing on freshwater fish and ecology. I’ll enter a Masters in Animal Biology at UCD this upcoming fall, and during my gap year I’m working as a Junior Specialist at the Center for Watershed Sciences. I work on zooplankton analysis in the North Delta, and I also head the Carp-Dependent Ecosystem Urgent Management (Carp-DEUM) Project on campus. I’m researching the relationship between carp and algal blooms in the UC Davis Arboretum.

Ryan Hitchings, Vice President

Shasta Spotted BassI’m a senior at UC Davis in the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology and a Research Assistant at the Center for Watershed Sciences in the John R. Durand Lab, where I assist with various projects that study estuarine ecology. I’m currently working on a senior thesis evaluating the conservation status of the Sacramento Perch in three local ponds. I’m very passionate about native fishes and novel methods for the recovery of threatened species, particularly salmonids. When I moved to Davis, I made many of my friends and professional connections by joining the Davis-Sacramento AFS, and I’m excited to give back as Vice-President.

I am a second year undergraduate student at UC Davis studying Wildlife, Fish, Conservation Biology, working at the California National Primate Research Center. I am interested in aquaculture and mariculture techniques that can alleviate pressure on wild populations, particularly involving ornamental fish and coral. The American Fisheries Society has been a valuable resource for me, teaching me more about the fisheries industry and connecting me with industry professionals. I’m excited to contribute as secretary this year and ready for all that it brings.
